On Saturday 2nd February 2008, the Cabra community in Dublin commemorated Liam Whelan's life with a series of events:
Laying wreaths on the bridge named after Liam Whelan, a Mass in Christ The King Church and football match - a Liam Whelan 11 [players from the Cabra football teams] played a League of Ireland Selection.
The photo below was taken by United fan Andrew Coyle who attended the event. He said "It was quiet and sombre and a couple of speakers. Liam's brother and close family laid a wreath, then the Manchester United supporters club laid a wreath, then the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern (pictured here) laid a wreath, then it was followed by a minutes applause in rememberance of Liam and the Busby Babes. It was then followed by mass in the local church in Cabra."

Andrew has also told me that The Irish Postal Service is launching a commemorative stamp in memory of Liam and the Busby Babes on 4th February. More Details
